Greetings....Welcome to the Yaxche Web site, and thank you for wanting to know more about our school. I am often asked what makes Yaxche different from other schools, and my enthusiastic response is "climate." One immediately senses a different climate in this school, where children are thriving and happy. As I walk around the campus, I am constantly reminded that this is a school that truly lives its mission statement. Yaxche is a place where children flourish.

The Yaxche community honors individuality, embraces differences, values the arts, serves others, works to protect the environment, and finds joy in learning. We recognize the importance of self-study through our Emotional Intelligence program. We teach responsibility by modeling, giving, and taking responsibility. That is our culture.

At Yaxche, everyone is a learner. We engage our students through an experiential approach and by individualizing education. We have consistently refused to use stereotyping in our community. We have no “square holes” or “round pegs” at Yaxche. We cut the holes to fit the students.

Yaxche’s student population is economically and socially diverse—and is truly representative of its rich local culture. As a community of shared goals and ideals, Yaxche is active in the larger Taos population. Our high level of family involvement is a source of immense pride.

We also believe that our society needs responsible, visionary leadership. Yaxche strives to cultivate these future leaders by creating an environment that celebrates and rewards personal growth, creativity, excellence, compassion, self-reliance, and reverence for the natural environment.

I invite you to visit the campus, where you can see our mission and philosophy brought to life. The parents and children at Yaxche embrace these principles and are working hard to make them a reality not only for themselves but also for the rest of the world. We look forward to hearing from you.
